Shelter Box Indonesia

Rotary International has been an active partner of ShelterBox for years. This organization was founded in the lap of a Rotary club in Cornwall, England and has now become an independent NGO. The organization is active in many places in the world where people have fallen into distress due to natural disasters or war.

ShelterBox now needs our support to help the victims of the earthquake and the flood that hit the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. ShelterBox already has teams on Lombok, another island of the Indonesian archipelago where the earth shook devastatingly in August.

WHERE ARE SULAWESI AND LOMBOK?

This is the latest in a series of earthquakes to hit Indonesia.

We already have a ShelterBox team on the island of Lombok, helping families recover from the 6.9 magnitude earthquake which hit in August. The team is working with our local Rotary contacts to deliver aid to families in Lombok who lost everything in the quakes. So far we have helped over 360 families across North and West Lombok.

In addition to providing tents, tarpaulins, ropes, kitchen sets, blankets, ground sheets, mosquito nets, and solar lights, we have also provided tents to maternity and postnatal clinics. Now, in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami in Sulawesi, we are hoping to help many more families. We’re sending a highly trained team, whose key focus will be to look at if and how we can best help the families affected.

How can we help with a donation?

Naturally, all donations are welcome at ShelterBox. In the past Rotary clubs often have purchased a full box.

Such a green box is made of plastic easy to transport. There is a big tent and solid cooking utensils with one stove, pots and pans. Furthermore, blankets and toys to make a family with children will find a good temporary shelter in it.
The value of the box is currently

GBP 590.
