Rotary Club Antwerp.International is a 'hands on' club and wishes to contribute to the needs around us by rolling up their sleeves. In and around Antwerp there are masses of men, women and children who barely have the financial means to buy clothes. More than 17% of Antwerp residents live below the poverty line and the club wishes to make a small contribution to do something about this.
A few weeks ago, an opportunity arose to acquire new clothing (children, ladies and gentlemen) and new children's shoes, at attractive conditions. The shoes were given by Van der Steen Shoes in Brasschaat, the clothes came from far away in Limburg. The club jumped at this excellent opportunity, picked up the clothes and shoes and brought them to vzw Zenith, in the Biekorfstraat in Antwerp.
With them you will meet nationalities from all over the world. After all, the non-profit organization is open to everyone, without distinction of race, religion or political opinion. You won't find the R for racism in our dictionary, but you will find that for wealth because of such diversity of cultures in such a small place!
Some of the people are supported by the OCMW, but many are also left out there. They try to survive in the city and look for help where they can find it.
This is how they end up with the many non-profit organizations in Antwerp. Zenith is one of them. Zenith shares food, and in addition she has a department, a 'shop' as they call it for clothes and shoes for children, women and men. Nearly 50 volunteers with a big social heart welcome their many 'customers' who are largely dependent on what they can get from Zenith. Zenith is permanently looking for volunteers who want to contribute to its goals.
Rotary Club Anwerp.International has donated almost 350 kg of clothing and 120 pairs of shoes for this promotion. All brand new. Heart warming.
